Understanding the Transgender Community With the class discussion about the transgender community last Friday, I felt that this article was a good follow-up. This article address the vast diversity within the transgender community, with its' members identifying as male, female, genderqueer, non-binary, agender, genderfluid, etc. I think when most cis people hear the word transgender, they think of someone who identifies as the gender opposite to which they were born. But this isn’t always the case, many people who don't identify as either gender are included in the transgender community. I think that part of why topics regarding sexual and romantic identities can be so hard to talk about is that the nuanced terminology is not common knowledge. I really feel like there should be an effort on the part of the cis community, not only to accept these people but to go out of their way to try and understand those who fall under the large umbrella term of transgender.
